Auckland Council services and facilities run on different hours over the holidays, so check the list below for what’s open when and click through for all the details. 

Auckland Council Contact Centre

Please note that the Contact Centre is prioritising urgent safety calls these holidays and many services are not available over Christmas.

Call 09 301 0101 or visit the Auckland Council website for information on all council services and facilities that are reduced or closed during summer.

 

Libraries and community hubs

All libraries, research centres, Council-run community hubs, community centres, and arts centres are closed except for Botany Library on the following dates:

• Christmas Day, 25 December 2025
• Boxing Day, 26 December 2025
• New Year's Day, 1 January 2026
• Day after New Year's Day, 2 January 2026
• Auckland Anniversary Day, 26 January 2026
• Waitangi Day, 6 February 2026

Botany Library will open alongside opening hours for Botany Town Centre.

Rubbish and recycling

Auckland Council will continue to collect your rubbish and recycling over the summer break, but there are some changes to collection days in December and January.

Normal collections will resume starting from Monday 5 January 2026.

Pools and leisure centres

Pool hours and Auckland Council leisure programmes change over the holiday period. Check the schedule so you don’t miss out on your favourite swimming spot or class.

Christmas closures for council services

Some council services will take a break over the holidays.

Before the year wraps up, check the Auckland Council website so you don’t miss anything important before closures kick in.

Local Board offices

Local board offices are closed over the Christmas period and will reopen in January or February.

Booking your holiday at one of our regional parks

When Auckland Council service centres are closed, you can still book via our online booking system where you can search, book and pay. Bookings cannot be taken over the phone, and payments are not accepted at our regional parks.
