You may have noticed some activity on the corner of Albert and Wellesley streets recently.
A project called ‘For the Love of Bees’ has popped up to encourage and support Aucklanders to help turn the heart of our city into a safe environment for bees and other pollinators.
Flowering of opportunities
The project offers opportunities for biological and scientific innovators, economic developers, community sharing people, environmental awareness people and tourists.
There will be formal and informal activities, learning events and networking, all within the central city community.
A hive of activity
The project is being led by artist Sarah Smut-Kennedy and funded by the Activate Auckland team through the city centre targeted rate. It launched on 1 October with a Spring Biking Bee adventure around City Centre community gardens. Other activities are planned.

Did you know?
A honey bee produces only 1/12 of a teaspoon of honey in its entire lifetime.
Each season, a colony of bees in a safe environment will make up to 35kg of honey.
To do this, female worker bees will fly from the hive to approximately 140 million flowers.
