The Temperature of Solitude
I lay myself on the bed.
I hug myself in my two arms.
What has drawn me here?
I have long been asking poetry that,
but poetry has made no reply.
The 36.5 degrees flowing through my body—
why is the temperature of solitude so sad and warm?
Circulating through flesh and blood, that do not know where the source lies,
the solitary phrase quickly reached
past the end and beginning of language that makes the teeth ache—
whose breath is this power
that shudders again as it summons the morning?
Why do I ultimately have to be music?
Why do I ultimately have to become a rose
hugging you in my arms?
The temperature of a sad, warm bare body
that will be broken into grains of sand,
I deeply embrace my love like a miracle.
