Avoid the holiday hotspots on the road

Roads and highways will be busy in and around Auckland and Northland this weekend as people head away for the three-day-weekend.

The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) is encouraging drivers to use their interactive maps to find the best time to travel. 

Things to do before you leave:

• do a safety check of your vehicle and allow plenty of time for the trip
• check the NZTA Traffic and Travel section for OnTheMove real-time travel alerts
• follow NZTA on Facebook or on Twitter #QueensBirthdayTraffic
• prepay your tolls at tollroad.govt.nz
• check the weather at MetService.

On the road

• take regular breaks or share driving
• drive to the conditions and keep speed down.
