Today we are sadly reporting the deaths of 11 people with COVID-19.

They take the total number of publicly reported deaths with COVID-19 to 1,472 and the seven-day rolling average of reported deaths is 13.

Of the people whose deaths we are reporting today; two were from the Auckland region, one was from Waikato, one was from MidCentral, two were from Taranaki, one was from the Hutt Valley, three were from Canterbury, and one was from South Canterbury.

Two people were in their 60s, two were in their 70s, three were in their 80s and four were over 90. Of these people, five were male and six were female.

This is a very sad time for whānau and friends and our thoughts and condolences are with them. Out of respect, we will be making no further comment on these deaths.

Cases

  • Seven day rolling average of community cases: 5,132
  • Seven day rolling average (as at same day last week): 4,939
  • Number of new community cases over past 24 hours: 5,549
  • Number of new community cases (PCR) over past 24 hours: 172
  • Number of new community cases (RAT) over past 24 hours: 5,377
  • Location of new community cases (PCR & RAT) over past 24 hours: Northland (109), Auckland* (1,796), Waikato (298), Bay of Plenty (189), Lakes (69), Hawke’s Bay (190), MidCentral (144), Whanganui (72), Taranaki (150), Tairāwhiti (43), Wairarapa (52), Capital and Coast (537), Hutt Valley (224), Nelson Marlborough (192), Canterbury (934), South Canterbury (79), Southern (434), West Coast (35), Unknown (2).
  • Number of new imported cases: 96
  • Number of active community cases (total): 35,900 (cases identified in the past seven days and not yet classified as recovered)
  • Confirmed cases (total): 1,307,044.

* An error in yesterday’s reporting meant Counties Manukau and Waitemata case numbers were not added to the Auckland new cases total. New cases for Counties Manukau yesterday were 386 and 657 for Waitemata. This meant the total new cases for Auckland yesterday was 1,452 not 409.

Please note, the Ministry of Health’s daily reported cases may differ slightly from those reported at a DHB or local public health unit level. This is because of different reporting cut off times and the assignment of cases between regions, for example when a case is tested outside their usual region of residence. Total numbers will always be the formal daily case tally as reported to the WHO.

Tests

  • Number of PCR tests total (last 24 hours): 2,346
  • Number of Rapid Antigen Tests reported total (last 24 hours): 9,146
  • PCR tests rolling average (last 7 days): 2,934
  • Number of Rapid Antigen Tests dispatched (last seven days as of 27 June 2022): 0.6 million
