The recent screening of Frozen 2 at Monte Cecilia park in Puketāpapa was a resounding success with close to 2000 people attending.

Puketāpapa Local Board supports Auckland Council’s Movies in Parks programme.

“We love holding this event and showcasing Monte Cecilia Park’s beauty.  It’s a great chance for locals to enjoy some free entertainment, connect and relax especially when Covid19 has kept us apart more than we would like,” says Puketāpapa Local Board Chair Julie Fairey.

Fairey, along with other local board members, mingled with locals and used their stall to provide information and collect views.

“We asked locals what type of movie they would like to see next year,” Fairey said.

People selected from different categories such as kids, New Zealand movies, classic, 80s, action, drama and comedies.

“There was overwhelming preference for something family-friendly, and we’ll be asking at other events this year to get a broader picture for 2022,” she said.

The process for selecting movies in parks is done with careful consideration and input by the local board who provide the event organisers with a preferred list of movies from a list of what may be available. 

The event organisers then work through this list with the cinema provider to apply for screening licenses, ensuring across the Movies in Parks series there is a good variety of free movies on offer.
