Both Music in Parks and Movies in Parks are back for 2021 with an incredible line-up.

Summer gets its rhythm going on 16 January with Kiwi music icons, incredible fresh new talent and brilliant local bands as Music in Parks celebrates its 43rd outing.

Then Movies in Parks continues the entertainment from 5 February with a line-up sure to please the whole family.

“There’s nothing more symbolic of our chilled Auckland summers than the Auckland Council Music and Movies in Parks," says Councillor Alf Filipaina, Chair of the Parks, Arts, Community and Events Committee.

"Make sure you gather up the whānau and aiga (family), pack a picnic blanket, and get along to one of our 34 music and movies events.”

Music in Parks

Some of the coolest summer beats and brooding new melodies will come from the youngest talent on the Music in Parks stages this summer. Twelve of the acts discovered at Stand Up Stand Out 2020 (SUSO) will perform live at Music in Parks.

They will be joining the Jordan Luck Band, Three Houses Down, Kiwi blues legend Midge Marsden and fan favourite supergroup AutoMatic80s as part of the season’s line-up.

New this year is that some of the music gigs by SUSO artists will be staged at skate parks making it a perfect day of entertaining for Auckland’s youth.

Classical music lovers haven’t been forgotten either with the NZ Opera Company returning for a night of opera at the glorious Glover Park in St Heliers.

Movies in Parks

The past year has been a challenging one resulting in a reduced number of events, but the 2021 series promises to still dazzle and charm.

Launching with the family favourite Frozen 2, Auckland Council is bringing 10 smash-hit movies to a park near you.

So, bring your comfy picnic chair and imagine hearing birds and leaves rustle in the trees, with the moon overhead, as you watch:

- Elsa saving the kingdom of Arendelle again in Frozen 2 at Monte Cecilia Park, Hillsborough;

- Pirates, giants, a revenge-seeking Spaniard, and R.O.U.S.’s in the classic The Princess Bride at Epsom’s Windmill Park;

- Iconic waiata Poi E dialing up nostalgia at Point Chevalier’s Coyle Park;

- The unflappable Dumbo flying into Papakura’s Central Park;

- Legendary superhero Carol Danvers protect Earth at the Manukau Sports Bowl.
