March is the month to have your say on Auckland’s future.

“We want to hear what you think about the challenges facing our city,” says Councillor Wayne Walker.

“There are many challenges, from improving our public transport system, upgrading water and roading infrastructure, and improved protection for our natural environment,” says Walker.

Councillor John Watson agrees, adding, “Auckland’s population growth remains strong and the impact of that growth is felt strongly in the Albany ward area.”

“Not only do we need more homes, but we also need the infrastructure to connect to them, along with other facilities and services such as schools, libraries and parks,” says Watson.

“There’s a lot to do with only limited funds, so it’s vital we consider carefully what we need, in what order, and can afford against how we would like the city to look and function long-term.”

Your feedback will help shape critical council plans to guide Auckland’s direction and the budgets required to fund our priorities.

It’s easy to have your say – go online to akhaveyoursay.nz before 28 March or come and talk to us at one of the below listed events or meeting near you.

Local board priorities

Each year, as part of council’s budget process, local boards review priorities and activities in your local area to ensure we continue delivering the agreed outcomes. We’re seeking your input on our plans for the 2018/2019 financial year. Below is a summary of our proposed priorities for Upper Harbour and Hibiscus and Bays Local Boards.

Upper Harbour Local Board

  • Advocating to the Governing Body to allocate funding in the 10-year Budget for the provision of a sub-regional, multi-use, multi-sport indoor court facility for the north-west area.
  • Connecting our local parks and reserves through “street to street” cycling and pedestrian crossings to improve accessibility and user experience.
  • Constructing a coastal walkway between Limeburners Reserve and Marina View Drive in Hobsonville.
  • Protecting and conserving Upper Harbour reserves through methods such as restoration planting.

Hibiscus and Bays Local Board

  • Reviewing how local contestable grants for events and activities are assessed and allocated within our local board area.
  • Implementing projects from the Mairangi Bay Reserves Development Plan. Future projects include relocating part of the existing road to the back of the reserve and providing new angle parking.
  • Allocating funding to promote community and visitor use of Gulf Harbour ferry for the weekend trial.
  • Working with partners to facilitate local employment opportunities in Silverdale.
  • Seeking funds for our key advocacy project to protect Ōrewa Beach Esplanade and reserves from coastal erosion.
