In 2015, Kaipātiki Local Board secured funding for the redevelopment of the old Marlborough Park Hall to transform it into a youth facility.
The project was completed late last year and opened with a blessing from local kaumātua.
Kaipātiki Local Board Chair Danielle Grant says, “A key theme in community feedback on our draft local board plan was to provide better spaces for our young people. This project delivers on our aspiration to develop a community-led youth facility.”
Councillor Richard Hills initiated the project as a local board member. He says, “It was a fantastic project to work on and included feedback from hundreds of young people in our community."
“The space has been transformed from a dark, old, mouldy hall, to a bright, welcoming facility with many more rooms and possible uses. Our young people on the Shore deserve this investment.”
The facility will be run by Kaipātiki Youth Development Trust, an organisation with priorities including improving youth health and employment readiness.
The trust will offer a range of events, services and programmes to achieve this.
The facility also has spaces available for use by the wider community.
There are plans for a community open day on 12 February.
