Orewa Library will stay open during the Nautilus repairs.

Ōrewa Library carpark closed 12-13 November.

Repair work is soon to begin on the Nautilus apartment building, which is affected by weather-tightness issues.

Legacy Construction, the construction company who will carry out the repair work on the Nautilus apartment building, have use of part of the Orewa Library car park for a site compound from 12 November 2016.

To ensure the safety of staff and public the carpark will be closed during the weekend of Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 November, to allow Legacy Construction to safely set up the site compound and hoardings.

Access to the Ōrewa Library carpark was granted to the building owner by the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board. Auckland Council has agreed that the fee paid by the Nautilus owners to hire part of the library carpark will go directly to upgrading the Ōrewa Library.

Business as usual for library

Prendos director Philip O’Sullivan says Ōrewa residents can be assured that it is business as usual for the Ōrewa Library, with no change whatsoever to opening hours.

“Ōrewa Library customers can continue to use the library as they always do once the repair work begins. There will be no change at all to the way the library operates, the opening hours remain the same. The only difference is there are a few less carparks available for public use.”

Once the shared carpark arrangement starts on Monday 14 November, Ōrewa Library customers will have 10 carparks available to use, plus three carparks for people with disabilities. A further two carparks will be available for public use, except between 6am – 9am each day, when those parks will be used by the construction company.

Collaborative effort

O’Sullivan says the process of getting the repair project underway has been a positive collaborative effort between the Hibiscus and Bays Local Board, Auckland Council, the Nautilus apartment owners and the Prendos project management team.

“While every stakeholder in the Nautilus repair project may have a different role to play, a goal common to all is to minimise any disruption to local retailers, Ōrewa residents, and particularly those who use the Ōrewa Library and its carpark.”

The Nautilus, which was badly affected by weather tightness issues, will be entirely re-clad. The work, which is expected to take two years to complete, will be completed in four stages, the first of which will begin at the tail end of the building. As each stage is completed, the construction team will move scaffolding onto the next stage until the work is completed.
