Sunny weather on Monday will gradually deteriorate on Tuesday and Wednesday as a front moves northwards up the country. This is followed by a cold southerly change, but by Thursday high pressure starts to build signalling a settled end to the week.
Monday will be a sunny day for most. However, a front approaches the far south during Monday evening and then gradually makes its way up New Zealand on Tuesday and Wednesday. "While the front moves over the country there is likely to be a period of strong to gale northwest winds in some eastern areas and especially Wellington," stated MetService meteorologist Emma Blades. "In addition, heavy rain is likely in the west of both islands, the central North Island hill-country, and the eastern Bay of Plenty," Blades added. Please check in for any Severe Weather Warnings and Watches for your area as we head through the week.
A cold and showery southwesterly change follows this front, bringing a wintry blast through Wednesday and Thursday. Showers are likely to fall as snow to around 500 metres in southern parts of the South Island.
On Thursday, a ridge of high pressure starts to build, heralding a dry end to the week for most.
