Here are 13 ideas for fun things to do in Auckland that (mostly) don't involve being outside in the rain.

1. Te Uru Waitākere Contemporary Gallery

Art out west from some of New Zealand's best in the restored Lopdell Precinct in Titirangi.

2. Auckland Museum

Current exhibitions include Home Front – Experiences of the First World War in NZ and (from 30 June) Kōrero Mai, Kōrero Atu, featuring evocative works by artists Areta Wilkinson and Te Rongo Kirkwood.

3. The Wintergardens

Wander among tropical and temperate plant species in the heritage (and heated!) greenhouses, built just after the First World War. 

4. Te Toi Uku Clayworks

Te Toi Uku houses a large collection of Crown Lynn Pottery, as well as ceramics machinery and work by New Zealand artists. 

5. Kumeū Arts Centre

Kumeū Arts Centre offers classes, untutored groups, events, workshops, festival and exhibitions.

6. Māngere Arts Centre Ngā Tohu o Uenuku

7. Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki

World-class collections of Māori and Pacific Island art, and international paintings, sculptures and prints ranging from the 11th century to the present day.

8. Te Tuhi Centre for the Arts

A contemporary art gallery in Pakuranga that presents exhibitions and projects by New Zealand and international artists.

Must see: Eddie Clemens: Clone Cities.

9. Corban Estate Arts Centre

Home to exhibition galleries, a cafe, gallery shop, and artist’s studios. 

Don't miss: Learn to sing 'Poi E' with the Patea Māori Club(Saturday 2 July only).

12. The New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui a Tangaroa

Find out how the first Pacific voyagers navigated to Aotearoa, meet some modern maritime heroes, and discover New Zealand's seagoing history.
