Coastal vows and historic beauty

If you crave epic views, historic charm and classic, old-world romance for your special day, these venues are for you:

Fort Takapuna - The Barracks:

Nestled within the historic Fort Takapuna Reserve, just a short stroll from the clifftops overlooking Tīkapa Moana / Hauraki Gulf, The Barracks offer a timeless and romantic setting for weddings. Built in the 1940s as open dormitories for defence personnel, these carefully restored buildings now provide light-filled, versatile spaces that blend heritage charm with a relaxed coastal atmosphere. Exchange your vows surrounded by the natural beauty of this taonga tuku iho — a treasured place where history, whenua, and aroha meet. The open reserve beside the Barracks provides a picturesque backdrop for wedding photographs, with sweeping views across Narrow Neck Beach and Rangitoto Island nearby.

Monte Cecilia Park

Nestled within the sweeping lawns of Monte Cecilia Park, The Pah Homestead stands as a stately heritage landmark and home to the galleries of The Arts House Trust. Built in the 1870s, the house exudes timeless elegance with high ceilings, marble fireplaces, parquet floors, crystal chandeliers, and walls adorned with a curated rotation of contemporary New Zealand art, creating a refined setting for boutique weddings of up to 100 guests.

Once the home of Māori and a fortified pā, this historic site is now a wedding favourite with its spectacular views of Manukau Harbour, One Tree Hill, and the Waitākere Ranges.  Encircled by mature trees and graced with a sculpture garden, the Homestead offers a romantic setting for outdoor ceremonies and photography, while indoors guests can celebrate and dine within the inspiring surrounds of an art gallery.

Just minutes from central Auckland, this remarkable venue blends the grandeur of its architecture with the creative energy of a living gallery — a truly special place for those who appreciate beauty, culture, and atmosphere.

Wildly romantic

For the couples whose love is a force of nature, head west for an epic setting and untamed backdrops.

Piha Beach and Barnett Hall:

Here you’ll find timeless architecture and awe-inspiring settings at every turn. Exchange vows beneath the spectacular stained-glass ceiling of the neo-classical Grand Foyer, a space defined by dramatic columns and soaring height. For a unique, modern celebration, Te Ao Mārama South Atrium provides an inspirational architectural backdrop, centred around a Fijian kauri-clad tanoa. For an unforgettable finale, impress your guests with a reception at Under the Dome and gorgeous 360-degree views of Tāmaki Makaurau.

Garden wonders and architectural icons

For those who look to celebrate love in full bloom, these locations provide unmatched, effortless style.

Step into a world of colour and tranquillity. The Auckland Botanic Gardens offer multiple exquisite outdoor sites. The Glade is an exclusive premier outdoor wedding and function space surrounded by subtropical plants that provide a touch of colour and style, year-round. The Edible Walled Garden is a charming, sheltered garden within formal brick walls with an open pergola providing an elegant space for intimate functions. The Rock Garden is an ideal location for the romantics who prefer a lakeside wedding. This is a special site surrounded by mature trees and greenery that provides the perfect backdrop for your ceremony featuring a unique circular pergola at the highest end of the Rock Garden. It offers views down a sloped lawn to the tranquillity of the lakes.

Timeless elegance and community charm

Western Springs Garden Community Hall:

Set opposite the tranquil Western Springs Lake, this spacious and contemporary venue offers a bright, open hall with striking timber-beamed ceilings and plenty of natural light. The main space can host up to 200 guests standing, or comfortably fewer for seated receptions. An adjoining room for up to 150 provides extra space for dining, a dance floor, or pre-dinner mingling. With generous parking, easy access, and a convenient city-fringe location, it’s an ideal setting for large, relaxed celebrations. NOTE: This venue will be closed from December 2025 to February 2026 due to small renovations.

Ferndale House (Mt Albert)

This elegant historic home nestled within Ferndale Park is a quaint, intimate haven. With its charming décor and established trees, it’s a beautifully preserved piece of local history, perfect for smaller receptions and a delightful garden party atmosphere. NOTE: This venue will be closed from 22 December 2025 to 31 March 2026 while roof replacement works are carried out.

Whether you choose the rugged beauty of a West coast beach, the timeless elegance and charm of a community hall or the harbour-side history of the North Shore, rest assured that these Auckland Council venues are more than just spaces – they’re the perfect place to start your next chapter.
