Hundreds of people poured into Waterview Reserve on Saturday to celebrate the official opening of the new BMX track and skate park.
Margi Watson, Albert-Eden Local Board lead for the State Highway 20 (SH20) Waterview Connection, was thrilled to finally open the track.
“It’s really exciting for local families, youth and the community. The Albert-Eden Local Board and members of the community have worked for more than seven years to get better local facilities to be part of the motorway project.
“It’s been a year since we opened the water play, playground, volleyball court and basketball court. Next year the third and final stage will be opened, which includes the heritage area and walking connections alongside Te Auaunga-Oakley Creek.”
The Waterview Reserve has been massively transformed over the last six years as part of the SH20 Waterview Connection motorway project.
The reserve is a community and family-friendly park, which now has facilities for beginner and experienced skateboarders and BMX riders.

About the project
The track and skate park are part of the NZ Transport Agency's Waterview Connection project linking Auckland's Southwestern and Northwestern Motorways.
The facilities were constructed by the Well-Connected Alliance delivering the Waterview Connection project for the NZ Government and the Transport Agency and an Australian firm, Convic.
The Waterview Connection is due to open in the first half of 2017 and will link the Southwestern and Northwestern Motorways. It will complete Auckland's Western Ring Route, a 48km long motorway in addition to State Highway 1.
