Auckland’s biggest summer entertainment series announced
With the arrival of the kiwi summer comes Music and Movies in Parks, Auckland’s biggest entertainment series of the year. The Auckland Council series brings 24 free music events and 26 free outdoor movies to Auckland’s local parks and reserves from January to April.
This year will be the first Music in Parks series since Auckland officially launched as a UNESCO City of Music, a status celebrating our musical history, unique sound and lively musical lifestyle.
The 2019 Music in Parks line-up has something for all musical tastes; whether you’re a fan of pop and rock, reggae and RnB, or jazz and opera. Experience top performers from big-name artists to locally grown talent.
Crowd favourite events return – get ready for the electrifying Rock the Park and prepare to soak up the sun at Huawei Summer Jam. Don’t miss the all-new feature concert Kiwi Anthems for the chance to see artists including the Jordan Luck Band and Annie Crummer playing classic kiwi hits we all love. Little ones and their families will be spoilt for choice with three special Kids Music in Parks events, curated and mc’d by beloved children’s performer Suzy Cato.
Movies in Parks takes the fun of the cinema outdoors – from new releases to old favourites, we’re putting on a free movie night for the whole neighbourhood. Pack a picnic, torch, warm clothes and watch your favourite movies under the stars. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Grease and The Incredibles 2 are just a few of the great movies in the series, which will open with a new release film on 25 January.
Movies kick off once the sun sets, but the fun starts early with pre-movie entertainment, themed to each movie; jump into the ring for circus games at The Greatest Showman or race through an obstacle course at Jumanjii: Welcome to the Jungle.
Councillor Cathy Casey, Chairperson of the Community Development and Safety Committee is looking eagerly to the series.
