[319] Blowin’ in the Wind (바람에 실려)

(How many roads must a man walk down before you call him a man?)”

작년에 ‘The Book of the Year’에 선정되기도했었던 Bob Dylan의 ‘CHRONICLES Volume one’에 대해 미국의 언론과 세계의 문화계는 수 많은 찬사를 보내고 있다. “A remarkable book, rich atmospheric and full of insight into his book and life. –Sydney Morning Herald- ” (“풍부한 정서와 책과 인생에 대한 통찰력으로 가득찬 뛰어난 책.”)  “With the book’s side trips to New Orleans, Woodstock, Minnesota and Points West, Chronicles; Volume one is an intimate and intesnsely personal recollection of extraordinary times.” “Dylan’s New York is a magical city of possibilities – smoky, nightlong parties; literary awakenings, transient loves and unbreakable friendships.  Elegiac observations are punctuated by jobs of memories, penetrating and tough.”

그는 대학시절 South Wales 출신의 시인 Dylan Thomas(1914-1953)의 이름을 따서 자신의 이름을 Bob Dylan이라고 바꾸게 된다.  1940년대 낭만주의를 대표하는 시인 Dylan Thomas는 19살 때 첫 시집을 낸 후 ‘The Bread I break (내가 쪼개는 이 빵은)’, ‘Light Breaks Where No Sun Shines (빛이 터진다 태양이 빛나지 않는 곳에)’ 등의 작품을 화려한 폭발적 언어로 발표하며 미국 시낭송 여행을 하던 중 1953년 뉴욕에서 젊은 나이에 죽어간 빼어난 시인이었다.

How many seas must a white dove sail before she sleeps in the sand?(얼마나 많은 바다를 건너가야 비둘기는 모래에서 잠들 수 있을까?)  How many times must the cannon balls fly before they’re forever banned? How many times must a man look up before he can see the sky? How many ears must one man have before he can hear people cry? How many deaths will it take till he knows that too many people have died? The answer, my friend is blowing in the wind. The answer is blowing in the wind.

Bob Dylan
