The Minister of Women's Affairs should practice what she preaches if she expects the business community to respond to her call for them to improve the number of women on boards, Labour Women’s Affairs spokesperson Sue Moroney says.

“At the same time Pansy Wong was promising the Institute of Directors that she was determined to be a ‘catalyst for change’ to make them improve their ‘dismal performance in appointing women to boards’, her Government was announcing its appointments to polytechnic councils where only 25% of the appointees were women.

"This is the dismal performance she should have been challenging. As Minister of Women's Affairs, her job is to get more women on boards where she can directly influence the outcome.

“Instead she was giving a speech full of platitudes and instructions for others to do what her Government is clearly failing to do.

“Pansy Wong will only be able to provide leadership on this issue when her Government gets its act together.

“Otherwise it is a case of do as I say, not as I do, and that lacks credibility,” Sue Moroney says
